Adventures in Art:
The other day I met an old lady while sketching in Allen Gardens. We ended up talking for at least an hour about basically everything. It pretty much made my day - and maybe her day as well. I think we needed to find each other. Sometimes I think you can be more honest with strangers than with people you actually know.
Another page ripped out of my sketchbook. All the good ones never stay in there - but they usually have the best stories.
I think I should draw in public more. It's the only way I make friends.

What time is it?
Too restless. I need to draw. It's charcoal time. I miss it's black blacks and smooth edges and glowing white pastel that covers everything and gets in your eyes and your hair and when you blow your nose it's in there as well. Because it's everywhere, and you've been breathing it in for too long. Yes.
Look at these two lovelies I just found. The lighting is delicious. Everything is so delicate.

New Stuff
Arting happens! Here is some unfinished things for you to look at. In other news I'm planning a trip to Italy for the end of September. So much art to see - and I just found out that the Venice Biennale is still going to be up when I am there. SO EXCITED.
These ones are a commission for my aunt I have been working on in small chunks for what seems like forever. Also it's huge! (for me anyways) 4ft x 2.5ft. She wanted something big and green to put over her couch.
These ones are some pieces inspired by my friend Gabe's photography from Japan. So far I've concluded everything in a Japanese forest is magic- and must be painted.
Thats all for now but more arts coming soon (and life drawings!)

Magnum Opus
I recently discovered this:
Micheal Hiezer's "City". A giant sprawling peice of land art made of accurately piled mounds of sand, combed valleys and monumental concrete structures. A project that's been in the works since the 70's and is still underway. These pictures are only a fragment of one of 5 complexes that make up "City". I don't even know how to accurately describe whats happening other than it's beautiful and huge and ceremonial and historical. Oh yeah, and you can see it from space:

which for now is pretty much the only place you can see it from as the artist is with-holding it from the public until it's complete. Which is pretty awesome in itself.
Basically it just makes me really happy to see things being built like this now with such an insane level of craftsmanship and this extreme devotion to just one thing.
I can't help but be reminded of this:
Ferdinand Cheval's "Ideal Palace" which if you know me I was completely obsessed with for a lot of my time in thesis and for many of the same reasons I love City. The Ideal Palace was the project of a postman who collected stones for years on his mail route and eventually turned them into this amazing structure, spending the rest of his life essentially building his tomb out of concrete and his collected rocks by hand. I'm in love with him pretty much. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a lone obsessed outsider quietly building extremely awesome things, all the time, for their entire lives.
(and I can't even finish a painting these days!)
